Open Connectome Project featured in JHU HUB

01/05/2016

L5b_Synaptobow-lg-sharpMonday’s release of the JHU HUB featured a collaborative project by Drs. Joshua Vogelstein, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and core faculty member of the Institute for Computational Medicine, and Randal Burns, professor of Computer Science. As stated on The Open Connectome Project website, the purpose of the site is to “reverse-engineer the brain one synapse at a time.” This is achieved by viewing the details of the brains architecture through the use of array tomography – the same imaging method used in radiology. The image featured here and in the HUB article is that of a small slice of the human cortex; the colored dots are believed to be the synapses.
