Matthew Kerr, who recently completed his predoctoral research in the lab of ICM core faculty member Dr. Sridevi Sarma, is the recipient of two academic honors: the George M.L. Sommerman Engineering Graduate Training Assistant Award and a Whitaker International Scholarship.

The George M.L. Sommerman Engineering Graduate Training Assistant Award “recognizes outstanding performance as a graduate teaching assistant in the Whiting School of Engineering.”. Matthew was selected by a subcommittee of Tau Beta Pi, which drew upon student nominations. On May 2, he will be formally acknowledged at the annual Whiting School of Engineering Convocation Awards Ceremony.

The Whitaker International Scholars Program “assists with the development of professional leaders who are not only superb scientists, but who also aim to advance their profession through an international outlook.” Since receiving his PhD in Biomedical Engineering in March of 2016, Matthew has joined the faculty of the University of Cambridge as a Research Associate in the Department of Engineering’s Division of Information Engineering. The Whitaker Scholarship will provide Matthew with a living stipend and other resources for up to two years while he is at Cambridge.

Congratulations, Matthew, on your many accomplishments and well wishes from ICM!
