Lindsay Clegg to receive Michael A. Shanoff Research Award

Lindsay Clegg, a PhD candidate in the lab of ICM core faculty member Feilim Mac Gabhann, was selected by the Young Investigators’ Day Committee to receive the Michael A. Shanoff Research Award for her outstanding research. Lindsay was selected from an exceptionally large number of applicants and will receive a certificate and a cash award at the Young Investigators’ Day Program on May 9, 2017.

Lindsay’s research focuses on building cutting-edge, molecularly-detailed, multi-scale computational models of growth factor signaling in blood vessels. Specifically, she built computational models to study how immobilization of growth factors (e.g. in the extracellular matrix) alters cell signaling.  She first models experimental systems, where she uses detailed experimental measurements to build and validate her model. Then, she translates this molecular insight into the context of the human body, where measurement is difficult but understanding of signaling is key to effectively treat disease. Lindsay’s models are helping to inform the design and translation of promising growth factor-based therapeutics for ischemic disease and tissue engineering applications.
